Family Trip To Malacca
November 27, 2018
It's been years since my mother visited Malacca, so we decided to go on a short trip to the historical state which is also known for its delicious food too. After having breakfast at Yi Poh restaurant for some Hakka Noodles at Seremban (for those who love their minced pork with a strong, porky taste, can stop by this shop for the noodles), we headed straight to Jonker Street for some shopping and sight-seeing.
Every time I visit Malacca, I made sure I went up St. Paul's Hill where the ruins of the church stands. I brought my family up to admire the building and also to get scorched by the unforgivable sun. We then decided to walk back to Jonker Street and take a break at Sam Shu Gong's shop where you can buy local snacks and stop by for a cup of iced coffee and cendol!
The next destination after our short break was Klebang Coconut Shake. We had kuihs and nasi lemak for lunch there and the place was packed as always. I never knew the food was good because never once did I stop by for anything else except for the coconut shake. So to all my friends who only ordered their coconut shakes at the front stall, make sure you all spend some time in the cafe for the kuihs and nasi lemak too!
In the evening, we returned again to Jonker Street as this time around, stalls selling delicacies, trinkets, toys, kitchenware, and so on, start opening along the infamous street. I saw a lot of interesting people and stalls, also the guy who sings at the mini park is still there! I remember visiting Malacca 2 years ago and saw him singing with his guitar at the same place and thought he wouldn't be there anymore but there he is, maybe playing the same ol' song I heard when I first saw him.
Malacca can be enjoyed best when you do more walking than driving. That is because you get to stop and admire all the beautiful architecture of the temples and buildings there. I have to admit I am a very bad photographer as most of my shots slop to one side and not centered but still I am no professional photographer so it's forgivable hehe. Dinner was at Ban Lee Siang where we enjoy our satay celup experience a lot. It is quite spicy as you eat along the way and there is also a wide variety of things you can dip into the sauce too. I prefer this place over Capitol Satay because its much more spacious, clean, and most importantly, you don't have to wait very long to get a table.
The next morning, we stopped by Baba Charlie to get some yummy kuihs. I've never been to this place before so I was quite excited. It was packed to the brim and because the shop is in an old house, there wasn't much space to move around especially when the queue to pay is extremely long. I would recommend everyone to come as early as they can to beat the crowd. Once it hits 11AM, oooh the crowd and the heat, it's unbearable.
We headed to the Baba Charlie Nyonya Restaurant after that to finally get some Nyonya food. The food wasn't too bad but I think the ones at Jonker Street tasted better but it's okay, that means we can come again another time to eat at other places.
I don't remember if my family ever went on a trip together in the past 10 years. Unlike my friends who attend family vacations every year, it just wasn't a thing for my family. Anyway, it's not too late to go on trips together and I will be looking forward to more fam-trips in the future!!
Photos are all shot on the Canon Luna Autoboy Panorama with the Superia 200 film.
