Day 3 In Jakarta (2019)
March 10, 2019
After wandering around the streets and sweating under the hot sun of Jakarta, day 3 served us well as we hung out at shopping malls the whole day with a good friend of mine. So as mentioned in my previous blog post, Abang and I were to meet up with Monica at Remboelan for some authentic Indonesian food. It has been years since I saw Monica so I was definitely excited to see her again and get to know what this talented fashion designer was up to.
The Remboelan I went to was located in Grand Indonesia mall and the food was so, so good. My favourite was the lamb stew that had just the right amount of heat and spiced flavours. We ordered murtabak (something close to a pancake), corn fritters, and a steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf. If you are travelling to Jakarta and have some extra budget for food, you can stop by Remboelan for the authentic Indonesian food in the comfort of lovely interiors, great service, and AIR-CONDITIONING.
Monica was my lucky star for the day because first, upon arriving in Jakarta only did I found out that I was supposed to print my Java Jazz Festival tickets to redeem the passes. I had zero clue on where to get a printer and there was no printing shop nearby my stay too. Monica saved the day by printing my tickets at her own place and brought it to me during our meet up. Not only that, I actually found magnets (like finally) at one of the stores in Grand Indonesia and that wouldn't happen if Monica didn't suggested us to walk in. Thank you Mon! Also, for the lunch treat, thank you, you are an angel!
After taking Abang and I around Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia (both shopping malls are just right opposite of each other), Monica had to leave for work and we left for Java Jazz Festival. It was the first day of the event and I was super excited. As our favourite acts only performed on the second and third day, we decided to go look around on the first day so that we can prepare ourselves for the rest of the festival.
[I will write a separate blog post on the details of the Java Jazz Festival so that anyone of you who are interested will know what to expect and what to prepare before you go.]
Upon entering, I immediately fell in love with everything. The vibe, the music, the installations, everything was so well-planned. The first thing I did was to get a Java Jazz Festival T-shirt and then next was food hunting. Food was everywhere. There were food trucks and a food court which was located at the end of this stretch of beautifully decorated pop-ups. Feast your eyes!
Due to extreme hunger, I did not manage to get any food pics because the food came and go as fast as the guitarist could strung a chord (I hope this lame comparison works). Of course, we did not waste time and entered random halls to check out what's up and who was performing. We came across Jeff Bernat and stayed for awhile before moving on to another hall. By the way, Jeff Bernat was really melting the hearts of the girls with his voice and he sounded so good live.
We then checked out the outdoor stages and I saw this hottie from Lucky Chops with the trombone, oh man! Of course, the music was great. Everyone was dancing, everyone was enjoying the slight drizzle, who cares when there is good music.
Oh boy, it was only the first day of the Java Jazz Festival and I enjoyed so much even though I knew none of the acts there. I guess when you love jazz and the likes of it, it really doesn't matter who plays it. I had a great, great time for the first night and cannot imagine how day two and three of the festival will make me feel.
What a freaking good day. The reunion between me and Monica was so memorable and sweet, we tried to catch up as much as we could. And there was Java Jazz Festival that stole my heart away with its great music and jazzy vibes. You could stand at any corner of this festival and still here some jazz music in your ears. So I'll end the post with my favourite photo for the day which I took while dancing to Lucky Chops. Yes, this fellow was grooving to the music without some feet protection but like I said who cares, the music was all that mattered!

It seems to me you've spent there great time! For many people who have visited Indonesia, it's the best place to explore. I hope I'll get a chance to see its beauty!
